Made with special materials such as crushed granite, soapstone, and Venetian plaster, these paintings feature rougher, textured surfaces that playfully interact with light.

Painted with light absorbing matte finishes, these paintings appear very soft to the eye. In some instances, reflective elements appear alongside matte elements for a dynamic effect.

Oragnic shapes and patterns inspired by the natural world, arranged in radial and linear rhythms. These unique patterns are drawn and painted entirely by hand, and no two are the same.

Areas of high reflection and shine are showcased in these paintings. Emphasizing lines and features of the artwork, light dances across the surface of these pieces.

Frequently Asked Questions

About our creative process

Just the two of us - Monica and Scott - taking care of everything.

The local wilderness and wildlife of our home region, the Pacific Northwest in the US, and more broadly the whole world of nature. Outdoors we collect shapes, patterns, rhythms, and color combinations. Back in the studio we develop these impressions into abstract compositions.

It varies on the size and complexity of the piece; anywhere from one day to three months. We’ve spent longer than three months on a couple of special commissions.

Products and materials

We work from our home studio in Spokane, Washington. We have a little house, and the studio parts have slowly but steadily taken over.

Jazz and jam band music are playing much of the time, but our tastes are eclectic and our preferences moody. So sometimes it’s old school punk rock, other times classical, and still other times R&B. We’re all over the map genre wise, but one thing is for sure — the music never stops.

We start with a place in nature that we’ve experienced, and explore the feelings we had when we were there. (We end up with a lot of awe, wonder, experience of the mystery, that kind of thing.) We consider how to capture those feelings symbolically, using color, texture, patterns, and rhythm. We then sketch and try combinations until we see harmony among the elements. Then we paint the whole affair on canvas. Voila!

About our artwork

Yes! We try to show our work locally in Spokane as much as we can, which often means on the walls of coffee shops and breweries. We also show at regional art shows throughout the year.

No. Galleries are not really our speed. Our clients purchase our artwork directly from us, easy as can be. By buying directly, the entire purchasing experience is simpler, faster, and a lot more fun. Plus, we can deliver and install work*; preview a piece in your home or office; or just meet you for a sip and conversation about your art dreams.

*At this time delivery / installation is limited to: Washington State, North Idaho, Western Montana and Oregon.

We paint in all sizes, but the big stuff is just so fun to do! Large paintings fill a space with energy, and just radiate elegance, taste, class.

General questions

Our website is the fastest way to buy one of our paintings. If you prefer to see the work on your wall first, please reach out and we will make it happen. Otherwise, you can purchase off-the-wall if our work is on public display, or purchase directly from us at an art exhibition.

There is no substitute for artwork created with intention, emotion, and human hands. An original painting is storytelling for the soul, a moment of color and light held in suspension. We believe that you can experience profound and timeless energy when viewing one-of-a-kind artwork.

Not at this time. Given the textures and special lighting effects we employ, our paintings would be difficult to photograph and / or develop into art prints.
